At first you could be mistaken in thinking that Lara St John’s website is just like that of any other solo violinist who’s made a name for herself. But the key to this amazing musician lies in her videos - I love the whimsical sense that takes a classical music video to new heights - in this case, on a balloon. And the music is stunning!

She is playing a violin made by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini known as the ‘Salabue’ made in 1779 - it has a great rich sound! - a violin made when Beethoven was only 9 years old. Lara St John plays it courtesy of an anonymous benefactor. Vanessa Mae also plays a Guadagnini violin - from 1760, as does Australian virtuoso Richard Tognetti of the Australian Chamber Orchestra (1759).

Cheers
